Scripture Reference:

Description: The baker weighs kneaded loaves of bread at his workbench. On the floor around him are a sieve, a jug, and a wooden trough. A man gathers straw to fuel the burning oven and a woman with a shopping basket enters the bakery. The Dutch artist and poet Jan Luiken (1649-1712) was responsible for drawing this emblem and for creating the motto and poem that follow. Jan Luiken and/or his son Casper Luiken (1672-1708) were responsible for its etching. The attendant scripture text is Psalm 104:14.

Motto:
He who nourishes the body,
Cares for the soul.

Poem:
O Creator of precious bread,
As food for the temporary life,
How your generosity has invited us,
To give ourselves as bread to you!
O Bread, that fell from Heaven,
Satisfy then our soul.
