If you find an item in EUCLID with the location "STORAGE," then use the REQUEST IT button
to have the material brought to the Pitts Library for your use. The Pitts Theology Library also has a large number of materials in storage that are not cataloged in EUCLID. These materials fall into two categories and require special forms for retrieval. Please see instructions below.
Storage requests are brought to Pitts every afternoon, Monday through Friday. Requests must be made by noon for same-day service. Requests placed after 12 noon (or on weekends) will be filled the following business day. You will be notified by email when a requested item is available for pick-up. You may also phone the circulation desk (404.727.4166) to inquire whether materials are available. All storage requests made receive a reply.
If you are not Emory faculty, student or staff, you will need assistance from a librarian in placing a request. Storage items can be requested in advance, so that they will be available when you arrive on campus. These items must be used in the library. Requested materials are held at the circulation desk for 8 days. Please contact us in advance.
Locate the journal title in the card catalog in the Periodicals Room. Each title has two cards: the first provides publication information, while the second records the volumes that Pitts owns. Use the descriptive card(s) to determine if the library owns the journal. Use the holdings card(s) to determine if the library owns the volumes you need. If you have difficulty interpreting the holdings card, please ask for assistance.
Note: some holdings cards will also include information regarding the storage of the journal. For example, if the card notes that the title is shelved with another title, or shelved as another title, you will need to note this in the "Notes" field of the storage request. Please contact the Periodicals Librarian if you are looking for newspapers.
Item records are found in the card catalog in the east wing of the library's main floor. Call numbers for most of these items follow the "Richardson" classification system, which differs from the Library of Congress system. The number will appear as two (or three) lines of alphanumeric code, which can be written on a single line by using a forward slash to separate codes (for example, P637/R73).
If the year of publication is 1801 or later, the item should be requested from the storage library, using the link below. If the year of publication is 1800 or earlier, the item should be requested at the Reference Desk by title, author, and call number.
