Reserves

Pitts Theology Library will put materials on reserve for any course offered through Candler School of Theology or the Graduate Department of Religion. Books and other physical items are available for students to use at Pitts Theology Library in the room at the back left corner of the Durham Reading Room. Electronic reserves, such as online articles, websites, and streaming films are accessible through ReservesDirect.

Place Books on Reserve for Your Course

• Fill out the online Book Reserves Request Form.
• Reactivate a Previous Class in ReservesDirect - Instructions
• Sign in to ReservesDirect with your NetID and password.
• Choose the course that contains the documents you wish to reactivate and click Continue.
• Select the course into which you would like to deposit the previous class’s documents and again click Continue.
• The Reserves List from the previous course will appear. Select all the documents you plan to use and click Import Class at the bottom of the list.
• Click 'Go to target class' to review your work.

Add Electronic Items to Your Course

• Upload Electronic Reserves to ReservesDirect - Instructions
• Reactivate a Previous Class in ReservesDirect - Instructions
• Sign in to ReservesDirect with your NetID and password.
• Choose the course that contains the documents you wish to reactivate and click Continue.
• Select the course into which you would like to deposit the previous class’s documents and again click Continue.

• Request a personal training session on using ReservesDirect from the Reserves Specialist.

Copyright Considerations

Due to issues involving copyright permissions it is necessary to monitor the documents we reproduce electronically. Staff at Pitts will be checking each reserve submission to ensure that it complies with appropriate fair use and copyright guidelines. When necessary, the library will request permission to post the document online from the copyright holder, and the library will pay the cost. If you have specific questions about how to remain copyright compliant when building your list of reserve readings, please do not hesitate to contact the Reserves Specialist.
