Classroom/Instructional Support
The librarians at Pitts Theology Library are passionate about theological education and seek to support theological teaching and learning at Candler and the GDR through a variety of instructional activities and materials, including:
- Classroom presentation of skills and resources for finding information.
- Workshop (outside class) presentation of techniques and technologies for finding information.
- Customized tutorials (synchronous and asynchronous) for faculty, staff, and students.
- Resource pages and librarian contact links for course Blackboard sites.
- Curricular and non-curricular presentations of the library’s special collections.
If you are a Candler or GDR faculty member or student seeking instructional support, please contact us at 7-1221 or theologyref@emory.edu. At any time of the year, we are happy to customize a classroom presentation, handout, or webpage based on your specific needs.
Our main objective as teaching librarians is to help the faculty equip students to use technologies (including books) to locate, evaluate, and use information for ministry and theological investigation. One of our goals is to have all Candler and GDR students graduate with a core set of information competencies. These include the abilities to:
- Find books and articles on a specific biblical passage using Euclid and ATLA RDB.
- Find all instances of a Greek/Hebrew word in the Bible using search software.
- Find significant primary texts from Christian history using Euclid and credible websites.
- Find significant secondary texts on Christian history using Euclid and databases.
- Evaluate credibility and relevance of information resources using expert web-guides.
- Use information in ethical and efficient way through use of citation styles and software.
