Blackboard course management system offers a web-based means of content delivery and record keeping for your classes. It is password protected, accessible to instructors, your designees, and enrolled students. When a blackboard is requested for a course, the student enrollment is mapped from OPUS to your online grade book. Communication is facilitated through course announcements and email which can be sent to the whole class or specified groups. Material can be posted to your course content in many file formats including Word documents, PowerPoint, pdf and jpg images. A link can be established to all materials on ReservesDirect, including files on the Emory Real Server for streaming video.
Blackboard course management system is supported at the university level by the AAIT Blackboard team and at Candler by Pat Ziebart in Pitts Library. Regular training sessions are offered at the Emory Center for Interactive Teaching (ECIT) and Pat is available for individual consultation. Excellent support materials and tutorials are also online.
To get started with Blackboard, you must first request a site for your class. It is very helpful to have the PeopleSoft id and section number for your class. Also, in the comments field of the class request form, please ask that TheoAdmin be added as a TA to your roster for troubleshooting purposes. Once the site is up, you can go to http://classes.emory.edu (this makes a good bookmark) to login with your university NetID and password. Consult the QuickSheet and the Beginning/End of Semester Checklist for a brief overview of using the system. The Blackboard homepage will also have links to the current training opportunities.
