The mission of the Pitts Theology Library is to acquire, organize, preserve, interpret, and provide access to information resources that support the present and future teaching, research, and service missions of the Candler School of Theology, as well as those of the Graduate Division of Religion and Emory University, and that complement other research collections for the study of theology. By preserving the literary heritage of the Church in all times and places, Pitts Theology Library recognizes the place of the written word in Judaism and Christianity and supports the study of all scholars, regardless of their faith.
The Acquisitions Department acquires new and out-of-print materials and preserves current holdings in consultation with the library director and in accordance with the collection development policy of the Pitts Theology Library.
The Archives and Manuscripts Department acquires, organizes, preserves, interprets, and provides access to the archives and historical manuscript collections in accordance with the mission of the library.
The Cataloging Department organizes and preserves current holdings and new acquisitions of published materials in accordance with the mission of the library.
The Information Technology Department provides and maintains the electronic infrastructure for the library and the Candler School of Theology generally and acquires, organizes, preserves, interprets, and provides access to digital collections in accordance with the mission of the library.
The Periodicals Department acquires, organizes, preserves, interprets, and provides access to the periodicals collection in accordance with the mission of the library.
The Public Services Department preserves, interprets, and provides access to the circulating, reference, and special collections in accordance with the mission of the library.
