Description: This woodcut by Virgil Solis (1514-1562) depicts the serpent tempting Adam and Eve with fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, while in the background an angel expels Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. The monogram or initials of the engraver (SHF), along with an engraver’s knife, have been placed at the lower left of the image.
