Description: This emblem depicts a demon, putto, and royal noblewoman waging war on a person who shields his or her heart from the attack assisted by an angel. The image is titled with the Latin CORDIS PROTECTIO, which translates “the defense of the heart,” and is accompanied by the text of Lamentations 3:65. This is the twenty-first in a series of 47 emblems published anonymously and adapted from Benedictine writer Benedict van Haeften's Schola Cordis (1629).
