Scripture Reference:

Description: A portrait of Venetian Doge Nicolo Marcello (c. 1397-1474), who reigned from 1473 to 1474. His coat of arms depicts a wave against the plain field of the sky. The upper medal depicts, on its obverse, a bust of Doge Marcello and, on its reverse, a stylized Christogram in the center of a sun, which is itself encircled by a scripture: “In nomine Iesv omne genvflectatvr coelestivm terrestrivm et infernor.” The lower coin, a mezza lira, depicts on its front, the Doge Marcello humbly accepting a tricolor banner from Saint Mark, and on the reverse, an image of Jesus, haloed and seated upon a throne.
