Description: Three illustrations line the top of the left page. On the top left, King Herod sits on his throne delivering a public address to the people when an angel of the Lord strikes him down because he did not give praise to God (Acts 12). In the center, after fasting and praying at the church in Antioch, Paul and Barnabas depart to do the Lord’s work (Acts 13). On the top right, Paul blinds the Jewish sorcerer and false prophet Bar-Jesus at Paphos (Acts 13). One register below on the left, Paul drives a spirit out of a female slave that helped her predict the future and earn money for her owners (Acts 16). Directly to the right on the shore of Malta, a viper attaches itself to Paul’s hand after being driven out of the firewood from the heat (Acts 27). In the second register from the bottom, Peter stands over Simon the Sorcerer on the left (Acts 8), and he commander of the Roman troops breaks up a riot of angry Jews and orders Paul’s arrest (Acts 21). On the bottom left of the page, Paul sits at a table writing as Jewish elders gather behind him. In the bottom center image, Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus who formerly practiced sorcery burn their scrolls in public in response to an attack by an evil spirit summoned by a Jewish priest (Acts 19). On the bottom right, a young man named Eutychus falls into a deep sleep as Paul preaches in an upstairs room at Troas (Acts 20). Moving to the top left of the right page, John of Patmos kneels at the feet of Jesus, who holds seven stars in his right hand as a double-edged sword protrudes from his mouth (Revelation 1). In the top center, John looks upon God seated on his heavenly encircled by the twenty-four elders and seven lamps ablaze (Revelation 4). On the top right, the four horsemen of the apocalypse emerge as the lamb opens the seven seals (Revelation 6). One register below on the left, the martyred believers receive white robes and call to the Lord after the fifth seal is broken (Revelation 6). Directly to the right, an angel descends from heaven with a chain and a key to seize the dragon, or Satan, and bind him for one thousand years (Revelation 20). One register below on the left, deadly fantastical locusts released by the fifth angel’s trumpet swarm around angels and men (Revelation 9). To the right, the seven-headed monster from Revelation 13 emerges from the water as a war breaks out in heaven against the dragon, Michael, and his angels (Revelation 12). The bottommost image on the left depicts the three angels sent by God to proclaim the Gospel and declare admonitions in Revelation 14. On the same register in the center, seven angels with seven plagues of God’s wrath are sent to Earth (Revelation 16). On the bottom right, the wedding of the Lamb and god’s people is celebrated in the threefold hallelujah over Babylon’s fall (Revelation 19).
