Description: This two page frontispiece features an illustration on the left side and the text of three morning prayers written on an ornate drapery on the right. In the illustration, a man (possibly the author, Maximilian Gandolph von Künburg) kneels before an altar bearing an open book inscribed with Luther’s German translation of Psalm 51:15: “Herr, tue meine Lippen auf, daß mein Mund deinen Ruhm verkündige,” or, “Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise.” An angel appears behind and above the man gesturing to the book with one hand and holding a large volume with the other. An axillary sphere or globe, piece of parchment, and several books are scattered around the floor, and to the right of the frame a metal censer and incense boat sit on a table dressed with cloth. God the Father, Jesus holding a cross, and a cherub-like holy spirit appear in the upper right corner amidst clouds and rays of sunlight looking down on the scene below.
