Image Title: Rebuilding the Walls of Jerusalem

Scripture Reference:

Description: As Israelites work to rebuild Jerusalem’s walls, a man with a hooked hammer, reveals himself to be an enemy and begins to inflict violence on the unsuspecting Israelites. To his right, a guard has reacted. Such attacks were a constant threat during the rebuilding of the walls, for other nations such as Ammon were opposed to the project. The engraver, Michael van der Gucht (1660–1725), has placed his signature in the lower left.
