Image Title: The Beggar

Scripture Reference:

Description: A lame beggar sits outside a rich man's house, but the affluent who enter the home pay little attention to him or his deplorable condition. While the beggar wishes for death so that he will be relieved of his suffering, Death would take away the lives of those who find themselves content and comfortable, such as the rich who have just ignored the beggar. The 54 images of Hans Holbein's "The Dance of Death" (Lyon, 1538) were cut by Hans Luetzelburger and here appear in the 1547 Latin edition of the work.
