Description: Jesus hangs on the cross as Mary, his mother, and the beloved disciple look on. Over his head is the inscription, “INRI,” which abbreviates the title that Pilate posted on the cross, “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.” The monogram of the artist, Christoffel van Sichem (1546-1624), and an engraver’s knife appear in the bottom left corner.
