Description: An emperor listens to the petition of one of his subjects. A skeleton, representing death, holds the crown on the emperor’s head, as the emperor holds a sword, and an orb sits on the ground. The emperor is also wearing the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece. The 41 images of Hans Holbein's "The Dance of Death" (Lyon, 1538) were cut by Hans Luetzelburger and here appear in the 1542 Latin edition of the work.
