Consulting Available for Local Church Archives

On Wednesday, May 13, Robert Presutti, Curator of Archives and Manuscripts at the Pitts Theology Library, met with members of St. Mark United Methodist Church to discuss their archives. He outlined the wider contours of church archives management, offered them specific recommendations about the organization and preservation of their materials, and responded to questions from church leaders.

The Pitts Theology Library is the official archival repository for the North Georgia Conference, and holds materials relating to Methodism in the South generally, the history of Christianity in South Africa, British religious history, and hymnody. The department also manages the archives of the Candler School of Theology, the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, and the American Academy of Religion.

Mr. Presutti is available to other churches of the North Georgia Conference for such consultations and may be reached by email (rpresut@emory.edu) or telephone (404-727-1222).

Launch of Methodist Review

Methodist Review: A Journal of Wesleyan and Methodist Studies is now freely available online.  This peer-reviewed journal continues the tradition of Quarterly Review: A Journal of Theological Resources for Ministry, a Methodist-related academic journal published from 1980-2005.  The broad scope of the new journal includes  “biblical, theological, philosophical, historical, social-scientific, biographical, ethical, and practical topics and methodologies.” (from the Editorial Welcome)  MR can be found at http://www.methodistreview.org

A simple registration process gives readers full-text access to articles. Readers will be notified of new materials,  which will be added as they are accepted for publication.  The site also posts announcements of interest to scholars of Wesleyan and Methodist traditions.

Profs. Russ Richey of CST and Ted Campbell of Perkins School of Theology serve as general editors, and Prof. Rex Matthews, also of CST,  is managing editor.
