Photocopies and digital images of materials from Special Collections are provided by the Pitts Library as a service to researchers for their private use on a fee-for-service basis (we do not sell reproductions).
A duplication request form must be completed. Please ask a staff member for instructions as soon as the first material for copying has been identified. Do not remove items from archival or manuscript collections for copying until receiving instructions. Photocopy orders of 20 pages or less are usually done "while you wait." Larger photocopy orders and requests for digital scans or for copies of audiovisual or other special-format materials are filled as staff time allows.
If you live outside the Atlanta area and are unable to visit the Pitts Library personally, you should place your request through your local library's interlibrary loan service. An exception to this is requests for reproduction of unpublished archival or manuscript materials, which should always be directed to the archivist.
Researchers may either pick up completed orders or have them mailed. The minimum charge for mail orders is $5.00. Prepayment is required for all photocopy orders; prepayment is also required for digital scans or for duplication of audiovisual or other special-format materials.
Photographs and images that cannot be scanned because of fragility or format will be reproduced at a photography studio. The requester will pay the cost of the studio services plus an additional $25.00 service charge.
If a digital image that we provide is to be used in a commercial publication, we require that the publisher request written permission from the library director and pay a fee of:
Charges for the reproduction of audiovisual and other special-format materials vary.
The requester must assume full responsibility for any infringement on copyright or for any other legal liabilities, such as libel or invasion of privacy, which may arise from the researcher's personal use of copies the library provides. Persons using unpublished materials (including letters, diaries, memoranda, literary manuscripts, photographs, films, audiotapes, and materials in digital formats) should be aware that the United States Copyright Law provides protection for unpublished materials as well as for published works and that any use beyond "fair use" may be an infringement.
